The Search for Freedom is the story of a cultural revolution fueled by the human desire to live in the moment and do what makes you feel the most alive
When I first set out to make this film, my goal was to tell the story of a cultural phenomenon - the rise of the action sports movement. What began as a fringe pursuit has evolved into a powerful way of life for countless individuals. This is the true story of that revolution, and of the passionate, imaginative, and courageous people who helped ignite it. Interestingly, the theme of freedom wasn’t part of the original concept. But as I interviewed dozens of voices from the community, the idea kept surfacing. What became clear is that the pursuit of freedom is deeply entwined with the pursuit of happiness; they’re inseparable. Ultimately, this film explores the kind of freedom found in complete immersion - the transcendent feeling that comes when your entire being is focused in the moment, fully alive in the here and now.
I produced, wrote, directed and edited The Search for Freedom. It won several awards including: Outstanding Achievement in Action Sport Filmmaking from the Newport Beach Film Festival, Best Producer from the The Beverly Hills Film Festival, Audience Award from the Maui Film Festival, and Best Cinematography from the London Surf Film Festival.
